Happy Momentum Monday (on a Sunday)!
We’re almost to the holiday finish line! Can you see it? 🎉 But before we cross over into the magic of Christmas, let’s take one final breath together and focus on creating a little Finish Line Freedom. This week is all about tying up loose ends with intention and shifting out of prep mode into actually enjoying the holidays.
Want to dive deeper into your specific “brand” of ADHD?
Why This Transition Period Matters:
For ADHD brains, the constant go-go-go of holiday prep can leave us running on fumes. Without a clear stopping point, we risk carrying the stress of preparation straight into our celebrations, leaving us too drained to enjoy them. Taking time to settle in creates a buffer that helps us:
- Transition out of the adrenaline rush of “get it all done.”
- Recharge our energy so we can actually be present with loved ones.
- Avoid last-minute perfectionism spirals that can take the fun out of the season.
Try These for Finish Line Freedom:
- Set a Personal Deadline
Decide when you’re done with holiday prep—whether it’s by noon on Christmas Eve or the night before. After that, no more wrapping, cooking, or errand-running. Let yourself shift from doing to being. - Make Peace with What’s Unfinished
Didn’t get to bake cookies? Didn’t wrap every gift with perfect bows? Let. It. Go. Nobody’s holiday depends on everything being flawless. What matters most is showing up with love and presence—not perfection. - Plan Something Cozy
Create a low-effort moment of joy to ease into the holidays. Maybe it’s watching your favorite holiday movie, sipping cocoa by the tree, or walking to look at the lights. Start celebrating your way with a moment that feels peaceful and good. - Rest Is Productive, Too
Give yourself time to rest and recharge before the big day. Whether it’s sneaking in a nap, taking a solo stroll, or just a few quiet minutes to breathe, rest will help you bring your best self to the festivities.
A Quick Note for Parents:
If you’ve got kids home now that school’s out, finding this transition time might feel tricky. Let’s keep it simple:
- Tag-Team It: If you have a partner or family member around, see if you can trade off “kid duty” so you can sneak in a little downtime. Maybe even hire a baby-sitter for an hour and go sit in your car zoning out to a podcast. Desperate times my friends, desperate times! 😉
- Create a Quiet Zone: Set up a cozy corner with books, crayons, or a holiday movie to keep them occupied while you carve out 10 minutes for yourself. If tablets are an option, let those screen time rules go out the window!
- Invite Them to Join You: Turn your “cozy moment” into a shared activity—hot chocolate, storytime, or even wrapping gifts together (aka a bag with some tissue paper). The goal isn’t perfection; it’s connection.
Action Step for This Week:
Set your “done” date now—whether it’s Christmas Eve at noon or earlier—and plan one small, cozy activity to transition out of prep mode and into holiday mode. Give yourself the freedom to truly enjoy what you’ve worked so hard to create.
