Happy Momentum Monday (on a Sunday)!
Just quickly, before we dive into today’s topic, I wanted to let you know that in March I’m relaunching my group coaching program, ADHD Academy, and would LOVE for you to join. It’s an amazing space to connect with fellow ADHDers, figure out what’s going on inside your brain, and start implementing the actual changes you want to make. The waitlist if filling up so if this sounds like a good place for you, don’t put it off!
Ok, not on to our regularly scheduled momentum…
I’m coming to you this week from somewhere in Southeast Asia, where I have officially paid my fair share of ADHD taxes. You know, those little (or sometimes big) penalties we pay for things like rushing, overlooking details, and assuming we totally have our sh*t together when, in reality… we do not. 😅
Case in point:
- Thought I could get my Vietnam visa on arrival, just like Cambodia? Nope. Needed 3-5 business days to process that bad boy, which I didn’t figure out until I was checking in for my flight.
- Booked my flight for Hoi An for March 18th instead of February 18th. A classic move when booking in a hurry and forget to double check those details.
Cue the mini meltdowns. The frantic Googling. The WHY AM I LIKE THIS?! spiral. Sound familiar?

The Art of Being Like Water
Here’s the thing: Life with ADHD is full of these moments. We try, we miss a step, we scramble, and we fix it (sometimes with extra fees attached 🙃). But the real game-changer? Learning how to adapt instead of self-destructing.
When things don’t go as planned, we have two options:
1️⃣ Beat ourselves up, shame spiral, and let the stress take over.
2️⃣ Take a deep breath, remind ourselves that everything is figureoutable, and move forward.
Lately, I’ve been leaning hard into Option 2—trying to be like water. Water doesn’t resist obstacles; it flows around them. It adapts. It keeps moving. This isn’t to say there isn’t a moment of option 1, but I try not to stay there too long.
Instead of getting stuck in frustration, I’ve been practicing:
🌊 Regulating before (or shortly after) reacting. Taking a breath, grounding myself, and reminding myself that panic won’t fix the problem. (After a few minutes of full blown panicking in most cases).
🌊 Problem-solving over perfectionism. “Okay, what’s the next step?” Instead of focusing on the mistake, I shift to finding a solution.
🌊 Accepting the ADHD tax and moving on. Sometimes we pay for our mistakes—literally. But instead of letting it ruin my whole day, I reframe it as “welp, another lesson learned.” And after the dust settles I really try to have a moment of reflection (which we struggle with), asking how did this happen and what can I put in place to make sure it doesn’t happen in the future.
This Week’s Action Step:
Think of a recent moment where something went sideways or notice when something goes off the rails this week. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, try looking at it through a “be like water” mindset. How did you adapt? If it’s still bothering you, what’s one small way you can shift your perspective?
And if you’re feeling brave, reply and tell me your best (or worst) ADHD tax moment. Let’s laugh with ourselves instead of against ourselves. 😏
Until next time, keep flowing. You’ve got this. 🌊💙
