Happy Momentum Monday (on a Sunday)!
🔥 Time Management Issue #2: Everything Feels Urgent (But It Isn’t)
aka Prioritization Paralysis and How to Break Free
Hey hey,
Quick question:
Have you ever stared at your to-do list and thought, “Yeah, I should feed the cat, do my taxes, clean out the garage, and start a nonprofit… all before lunch”?
Of course you have!
Welcome to prioritization paralysis, a special kind of ADHD hell where everything feels equally urgent and your brain is screaming “Do it ALL! Now!”… so you end up doing… nothing.
Why ADHD brains suck at prioritizing (but it’s not your fault)
Your neurotypical friends stack tasks vertically — biggest fire at the top, small stuff at the bottom or vice-versa.
But your ADHD brain? It lays everything out horizontally, like a buffet. Which means taking out the trash and applying for a new job can both feel equally “important.”
This is exhausting. This is confusing. This is how you end up folding laundry while ignoring your overdue prescription refill.
So what do we do? We go back to basics. We zoom in on what actually matters this week, not what looks impressive, not what makes other people happy, not what your inner perfectionist wants… but what’s vital.
Habits to try this week (to quiet the chaos)
👉 Ask yourself: What is vital today? Not what’s ideal. Not what’s “productive.” What actually needs to happen so Future You isn’t panicking in 48 hours? What can you do that will reduce anxiety?
👉 What are the consequences? If you don’t pay that bill what will happen? If the laundry doesn’t get folded what will happen? If we’re looking at going without heat vs having a few wrinkles in our shirts, we can usually see which one is “more of a priority.
👉 Reconnect to your values. What do you care about this week? What will you feel proud of on Friday?
👉 Grieve the fantasy of Doing It All. I know. You want to knock out every task, finally get your life together, and impress your inner overachiever. But trying to do everything often means you get nothing meaningful done. Grieve the myth. Then move on with what matters.
✨ Action Item for the Week
🔍 Set a timer for 5 minutes and ask yourself this:
If I only get 5 things done this week, what would make the biggest impact?
(Look at what’s sustainable. “Renovate the garage” is likely not a task that can be completed in a day, but instead “clean out boxes in left corner of garage” is something you can do, AND it leads to the larger task of renovating the garage).
Write. Them. Down.
Everything else? Overflow. Bonus. Optional.
Then, each day, pick one of those 5 and start there.
(And hey — if some other things get done while you’re in the zone, hell yeah. But if not, you’re still winning.)
🧡 Remember: Prioritization isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing the right things — and giving your brain a clear runway to land the damn plane.
Let me know what your “big 3” are for the week. Hit reply, I genuinely want to know. And if you want help figuring out your priorities without melting down, let’s chat. My ADHD coaching calendar is open.
You’ve got this. You don’t need perfect. You just need a little momentum and a blueprint.
Catch you next Sunday!
